There are three main ways to enter Saudi Arabia for Umrah: the Saudi tourist visa (which, per official Saudi guidance, allows Umrah but not Hajj), the dedicated Umrah visa processed through the official Nusuk platform, and - for travellers who hold a valid, previously used US, UK or Schengen visa - a visa on arrival recorded in Saudi tourist visa regulations. Which route applies depends on your passport, and every eligibility claim on this page comes from our official-source dataset.

Our dataset records 63 nationalities as eligible for the Saudi tourist e-Visa. Major Umrah-origin nationalities - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Egypt, Nigeria - are not on that list per our data, so for them the Nusuk Umrah visa (or the US/UK/Schengen visa-holder route) is the practical path.

Route 1: Umrah on a Saudi Tourist Visa

Per official Saudi guidance, tourist visa holders may perform Umrah at any time of year outside the Hajj season. The tourist visa products recorded in our dataset:

Tourist e-Visa

~USD 134 · up to 90 days per visit · multiple entry · apply online

Available to nationals of 50+ eligible countries. Multiple-entry, up to 90 days per visit within 1-year validity. Applied online at visitsaudi.com or through Absher platform. Mandatory travel insurance included in fee. Alcohol prohibited; dress code modesty rules apply.

Visa on Arrival

~USD 134 · up to 90 days per visit · multiple entry · issued at the border

Available to nationals of eligible countries at Saudi international airports. Same fee and conditions as the e-Visa (mandatory travel insurance included). Available to same 50+ nationalities eligible for e-Visa. Effectively the same product issued on arrival rather than pre-travel.

Eligibility is limited - check whether your passport qualifies on the official portal (visitsaudi.com) or via your Earth Visa check. A tourist visa never permits Hajj.

Route 2: The Dedicated Umrah Visa via Nusuk

For nationalities without tourist visa access - which, per our data, includes the largest pilgrimage origins - the dedicated Umrah visa is the standard route. It is processed through Nusuk, Saudi Arabia's official Umrah and Hajj platform, and its authorised travel providers. Typical flow, per official guidance:

  1. 1

Register on Nusuk or book through an authorised provider

The official platform handles the visa application, and most pilgrims book Umrah packages (visa + accommodation + transport) through Nusuk-authorised agents in their home country.

  2. 2

    Submit documents

Passport (commonly required to be valid 6+ months), photos, and proof of vaccination - meningococcal ACWY is commonly required per Saudi health requirements. Exact document lists vary by origin country; verify on official Saudi sources before you book.

  3. 3

Receive the e-visa and book rites

The Umrah visa is issued electronically. Permits for the Rawdah (Prophet's Mosque) and other rites are booked inside the Nusuk app.

Umrah visa fees and validity are set by Saudi authorities and are not recorded in our dataset - confirm them on the official Nusuk platform, not third-party agents' ads. Women's mahram (male guardian) rules have been relaxed per official Saudi policy; verify the current conditions before travel.

Route 3: Visa on Arrival with a US, UK or Schengen Visa

Saudi tourist visa regulations recorded in our dataset grant a visa on arrival (up to 90 days) to travellers of any nationality who hold one of the credentials below. The foreign visa must have been used at least once, the recorded fee is SAR 300 (SAR 480 including mandatory insurance in practice), and a passport valid 6+ months is required. First-degree relatives travelling together are included.

  • Valid US tourist or business visaOn arrival · 90d
  • Valid UK tourist or business visaOn arrival · 90d
  • Valid Schengen tourist or business visaOn arrival · 90d
  • GCC residence permit (eligible professions, valid 3+ months)On arrival · 90d

This is the fastest legal route for many Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi travellers who already hold a used US, UK or Schengen visa - and per official guidance the resulting tourist visa allows Umrah.

Umrah Visa FAQ

Can I perform Umrah on a Saudi tourist visa?

Yes. Per official Saudi guidance, tourist visa holders may perform Umrah (though not Hajj). Our dataset records 63 nationalities as eligible for the Saudi tourist e-Visa, priced at about USD 134 with stays up to 90 days. If your nationality is not eligible for the tourist e-visa, the dedicated Umrah visa through the official Nusuk platform is the standard route.

What is Nusuk?

Nusuk (nusuk.sa) is Saudi Arabia's official platform for planning Umrah and Hajj. Dedicated Umrah visas are processed through Nusuk and its authorised travel providers - you can book permits for the Rawdah and other rites there as well. Treat any non-official site offering 'Umrah visas' with caution and start from the official platform.

Do Indian citizens need a visa for Umrah?

Yes. Our dataset records no visa-free, visa-on-arrival or tourist e-visa eligibility for Indian passport holders to Saudi Arabia, so Indian pilgrims apply in advance - typically for a dedicated Umrah visa processed through the official Nusuk platform or its authorised agents. Separately, per Saudi tourist visa regulations recorded in our data, travellers of any nationality holding a valid, previously used US, UK or Schengen visa can obtain a visa on arrival - a route many Indian travellers qualify for.

Can women perform Umrah without a mahram?

Saudi authorities have relaxed the former mahram (male guardian) requirement, and official guidance has allowed women to perform Umrah without a male guardian. Rules and conditions can change - verify the current position on the official Nusuk platform or with a Saudi consulate before booking.

What vaccinations are required for Umrah?

Meningococcal ACWY vaccination is commonly required for Umrah and Hajj travellers per official Saudi health requirements, and seasonal requirements can be added. Health rules are set by the Saudi Ministry of Health and vary by season and origin country - verify the current requirements on official Saudi sources before travel.

Can I perform Hajj on a tourist visa or Umrah visa?

No. Hajj requires a dedicated Hajj visa issued under national quotas through authorised Hajj operators - a tourist visa or Umrah visa does not permit Hajj. Saudi authorities enforce this strictly during the Hajj season.
