Italy Visa for Turkish Citizens
Turkish passport holders need an approved eTA (electronic travel authorisation) before travelling to Italy, but not a full visa.
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will be required for visa-exempt third-country nationals once operational. The Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational on 10 April 2026 across all Schengen countries, after a progressive rollout beginning 12 October 2025. ETIAS is scheduled to start operations in Q4 2026; no precise date confirmed as of June 2026. Applies to all Annex II nationals entering the Schengen area including Italy. A fee will apply; authorization covers multiple short stays within 3 years.

Italy visa types
Schengen Visa (Type C) - Tourism
Short-stay tourism, leisure, and sightseeing in Italy and the Schengen Area. Covers individual tourists and group tourists (ADS groups).
Schengen Visa (Type C) - Business
Short-term business activities in Italy including meetings, negotiations, trade fairs, conferences, and commercial visits. Does not permit employment.
Airport Transit Visa (ATV)
Allows nationals of specified countries to transit through the international zone of an Italian airport without entering the Schengen territory.
National Visa (Type D) - Subordinate Employment (Lavoro Subordinato)
Authorises non-EU nationals to enter Italy to take up employment under a contract with an Italian employer. Covers both seasonal and non-seasonal work.
National Visa (Type D) - Self-Employment (Lavoro Autonomo)
Permits non-EU nationals to enter Italy to carry out independent professional or business activity (freelance, entrepreneur, professional services) not covered by the Startup Visa.
EU Blue Card (Carta Blu UE)
Facilitates entry and residence of highly qualified non-EU workers who have a higher education qualification and a qualifying employment contract in Italy.
