Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Employment

Issued to foreign nationals intending to work in Serbia; serves as the entry document before obtaining a unified residence and work permit.

Visa D issued for stays between 90 and 180 days. Requires employment contract or other proof of employment in Serbia (employer certificate of registration, invitation letter). Holders are expected to apply for a unified Single (Temporary Residence and Work) Permit after arrival, issued for up to 36 months. Applications may be submitted electronically via the eApplications Visa (eForeigner) portal or at a Serbian diplomatic-consular mission abroad.

Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Education

Issued to foreign nationals enrolled in accredited educational institutions in Serbia for study or training programs.

Requires enrollment letter or acceptance letter from a Serbian educational institution. Covers studying, schooling, Serbian-language learning, international student/pupil exchange, and scientific research/training grounds. Holders must apply for a temporary residence permit based on education after arrival. Visa D covers stays from 90 to 180 days. Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Family Reunification

Issued to foreign nationals joining a family member who is a Serbian citizen or holds lawful residence in Serbia.

Requires proof of family relationship (marriage or kinship) and proof that the family member in Serbia is a citizen or holds valid legal status. Holders must apply for temporary residence permit based on family reunification after entry. Visa D covers stays from 90 to 180 days. Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Medical Treatment / Care

Issued to foreign nationals travelling to Serbia for medical treatment at a registered healthcare institution or long-term care at a registered social-protection institution.

Visa D covers stays from 90 to 180 days. Requires a letter from the healthcare institution stating the place and expected duration of continuous treatment, the institution's registration decision, valid health insurance, and proof of funds to cover treatment/emergency medical costs (or a certified guarantee from a registered legal/natural person). A separate 'medical care' variant additionally requires a social-protection institution's accommodation letter and work license. Application available electronically via the eApplications Visa (eForeigner) portal. Holders may apply for a temporary residence permit (up to 3 years) on the same basis while the visa is valid.

Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Seasonal Work

Issued to foreign nationals hired for seasonal jobs in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors in Serbia.

Seasonal employment is permitted only for jobs of a seasonal character in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors, for up to 120 working days in a calendar year. Requires an invitation letter, employer certificate of registration (active status, not older than 6 months), a job offer detailing work conditions and duration, and an employer accommodation certificate. Visa D stay window is 90 to 180 days. Application available electronically via the eApplications Visa (eForeigner) portal.

Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Religious Service

Issued to foreign priests and religious officials coming to perform religious worship within a church or religious community registered in Serbia.

The church or religious community must be registered in the Republic of Serbia. Requires the community's certificate of registration and an employment contract or letter confirming the applicant is employed as a priest/religious official, plus valid health insurance and proof of funds. Visa D stay window is 90 to 180 days. Application available electronically via the eApplications Visa (eForeigner) portal. Holders may apply for a temporary residence permit on the basis of religious service.

Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Digital Nomad / Remote Worker

Enables foreign nationals working remotely for foreign employers or clients to reside in Serbia while conducting remote work.

Not a standalone branded 'digital nomad visa' - uses the standard Visa D or temporary residence framework under the 2023 Law on Foreigners (amendments effective February 2024). Applicants must demonstrate proof of remote employment or self-employment contracts with foreign companies, and sufficient funds. Serbia introduced tax incentives for digital nomads. After entry on Visa D, applicants apply for temporary residence permit. Average processing time for temporary residence permit: approximately 19 working days post-2024 digital reform.

Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Investor

Issued to foreign nationals intending to invest in Serbia and establish or manage a business entity registered in Serbia.

Entry visa before obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit for Investors. Investor permit requires certificate of at least EUR 50,000 in a Serbian-registered bank account and proof of invested assets in a registered Serbian company. For renewal, proof of paid cash capital contribution of at least EUR 5,000 into share capital is required. Permit issued for up to 3 years, renewable. Path to permanent residence after 3 years continuous temporary residence.

Visa D (Long-Stay Visa) - Real Estate Ownership

Issued to foreign nationals who own real estate in Serbia and wish to reside there based on property ownership.

Residence basis available to foreign nationals who own real estate in Serbia. No government-mandated minimum investment threshold stated on official sources. Requires proof of real estate ownership. Permit issued for up to 3 years, renewable. Path to permanent residence after 3 years continuous temporary residence.

Visa C - Electronic (Digital Travel Authorization)

Online e-visa equivalent to Visa C for eligible nationalities that require a visa but lack convenient access to a Serbian diplomatic mission.

Launched April 23, 2025. Available to citizens of 46 nationalities that require a visa to enter Serbia. First e-visa arrivals at Nikola Tesla Airport on 9 June 2025 (two travelers from Lesotho). Visa C valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entries within 180 days. Primarily for citizens of countries without Serbian diplomatic or consular missions, particularly in South America, Africa, and Asia. Lesotho was specifically named as one eligible country. Processing as fast as 1 hour when complete documentation submitted. Applications submitted 24/7 at evisa.welcometoserbia.gov.rs. First e-visa arrivals at Nikola Tesla Airport recorded June 9, 2025 (two travelers from Lesotho). The list of eligible 46 nationalities is not publicly enumerated on official pages - portal requires login.

Visa C / Visa D - Diplomatic / Official

Entry visas for holders of diplomatic and official/service passports on official government business or diplomatic assignments in Serbia.

Many countries have bilateral diplomatic/service passport visa exemption agreements with Serbia allowing visa-free entry for diplomatic and official passport holders. For instance, Russian diplomatic/official passport holders may enter visa-free for up to 90 days versus the 30-day limit for ordinary passport holders. Where no bilateral exemption exists, diplomatic/official passport holders apply through the same Visa C/D system. Serbia presented 12 new bilateral agreements for diplomatic passport exemptions to the National Assembly (Sao Tome and Principe, Togo, Maldives, Burundi, Guinea-Bissau, Uzbekistan, Ghana, Nepal, Republic of the Congo, Tajikistan, Eswatini, Saint Lucia) - these apply to diplomatic and official passports only, not ordinary passports.
