Transit
Djibouti Transit Visa
Djibouti publishes a transit visa product for travellers passing through to another destination. Whether you need one depends on your nationality and whether you stay airside - see how transit visas work.
Transit Visa (e-Visa)
For travelers passing through Djibouti (via Ambouli International Airport) en route to another destination who need to leave the airport transit area. A distinct category from the short-stay tourist/business e-visa.
Djibouti's e-visa system offers a transit visa distinct from the short-stay (court sejour) tourist/business visa. Confirmed as a current category by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs (diplomatie.gouv.fr, updated June 2026), which states the e-visa covers 'transit et court sejour' (transit and short-stay). Widely reported (non-official aggregator) figures are approx USD 12 fee, single entry, stay up to 14 days, with e-visa validity counted from the date of issue - these numbers are NOT confirmed on any official Djibouti government domain and are therefore left null. Passengers who remain airside in the transit area of Ambouli International Airport between connecting flights do not need a transit visa. Caveat: the evisa.gouv.dj portal is in disputed/non-functional status (US Embassy Djibouti stated the e-Visa was discontinued in August 2025; French MFA and UK FCDO still list e-visa as an option as of June 2026); visa on arrival remains the primary practical entry route.
