Airport Transit Visa (Schengen Type A)

Required for nationals of certain countries to pass through the international transit area of an Icelandic airport when travelling between two non-Schengen countries, without entering the Schengen Area.

Nationals of 12 countries require this visa to transit through Icelandic airports: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, and Sri Lanka. Does not permit entry into Iceland or the Schengen Area - only passage through the airport transit zone. Exemptions apply to holders of valid Schengen visas or residence permits (and certain permits from Canada, Japan, USA, Andorra, San Marino), diplomatic passport holders, and flight crew. Fee is the standard Schengen visa fee (EUR 90, approximately USD 97) under the EU Visa Code; the official page does not itemise a separate amount. A Type A visa issued by any Schengen state is valid for airport transit in Iceland.
