Business Visa with Labor Purposes (NM1)

Multiple-entry work visa for foreign nationals employed by private companies, multinationals, free trade zone companies, or international organizations operating in the Dominican Republic.

• Covers employment in private companies, multinational/transnational companies, free trade zones, and international organizations or public institutions.
• Valid 1 year, multiple entries.
• Labor contract and employer sponsorship required.

Temporary Worker Visa (VTT)

Visa for temporary foreign workers performing short-term labor in the Dominican Republic.

• Temporary Worker Visa (código VTT), US$95 per the MIREX consular fee schedule (tasas consulares).
• Lower-cost work visa category for temporary/short-term labor, distinct from the NM1 business-with-labor-purposes visa.
• Applications via Dominican consulates.

Artists, Athletes & Exchange Students Permit (PADEI)

Non-resident permit for foreigners entering the Dominican Republic to temporarily perform an artistic or sporting activity, undertake an exchange study, or provide voluntary service.

• Permiso para Artistas, Deportistas y Estudiantes de Intercambio (PADEI), issued by the Dirección General de Migración (DGM) rather than as a consular visa.
• Valid 1 year, renewable annually up to a maximum of 4 years.
• Requires the applicant to already hold a valid Multiple Business (NM) or Student (E) visa, plus a sponsoring institution/company certification (notarized and legalized), a medical certificate, and DGM-approved medical insurance.
• Covers performing artists, athletes, exchange students, and volunteers.

Student Visa (E)

Multiple-entry visa for foreign nationals enrolled in educational programs including university studies, religious studies, or internships in the Dominican Republic.

• Valid 1 year with multiple entries.
• Covers university enrollment, religious studies, and internships.
• Proof of enrollment from an accredited Dominican institution required.

Family Reunification Residency Visa (RS)

Single-entry visa issued to family members of Dominican residents or citizens seeking to reunite with their family in the Dominican Republic.

Entry visa to initiate the family reunification residency process. After arrival, holders apply for temporary or permanent residence through DGM (migracion.gob.do).

Pensioner/Retiree Residency Visa (RS – Pensionado)

Entry visa for foreign retirees seeking residency in the Dominican Republic based on a qualifying pension income.

Requires proof of a minimum monthly pension of US$1,500 from a government or private entity, plus US$250 per dependent. Grants entry to then apply for permanent residency.

Rentista Residency Visa (RS – Rentista)

Entry visa for foreign nationals with passive income sources seeking residency in the Dominican Republic.

Requires proof of at least US$2,000/month in passive income (investments, dividends, rental income - not active employment), plus US$250 per dependent. Leads to permanent residency.

Investor Residency Visa (RS – Inversionista)

Entry visa for foreign investors making a qualifying capital investment in a Dominican company, leading to immediate permanent residency.

• Minimum capital contribution of US$200,000 in a Dominican company registered with ProDominicana.
• Investment may be in currency, in-kind, financial instruments, or technology.
• Grants immediate permanent residency (no prior temporary residency required).
• After 2 years of permanent residence, eligible for naturalisation.

Residence Visa (RS – Residencia)

General residence entry visa for foreign nationals approved to establish residence in the Dominican Republic (outside the pensioner, rentista, and investor tracks), leading to Temporary Residence (Residencia Temporal RT-9).

• Base residence visa (US$200 per the MIREX consular fee schedule), issued by a Dominican consulate to foreigners approved to reside in the country - e.g. for employment, marriage to a Dominican, or general settlement.
• After arrival the holder applies at the Dirección General de Migración (migracion.gob.do) for Residencia Temporal (RT-9), valid 1 year and renewable, which is the pathway to permanent residence and the cédula.
• Requires an apostilled birth certificate translated to Spanish, a police clearance certificate, a medical certificate, and proof of financial solvency (minimum RD$300,000).

Multiple Dependency Visa (DPM)

Multiple-entry visa for dependents (spouse, minor children) of foreign nationals legally residing or working in the Dominican Republic.

• Valid 1 year, multiple entries.
• Issued to dependents of visa/residency holders.
• Proof of relationship and primary holder's legal status required.

Diplomatic Visa (DM – Multiple)

Multiple-entry visa for accredited diplomatic personnel and their families assigned to official missions in the Dominican Republic.

• Issued free of charge to holders of diplomatic passports on assignment.
• A Diplomatic Note from the relevant mission specifying diplomatic rank or position is required.
• Many countries' diplomatic passport holders are fully visa-exempt per bilateral agreements.
• Simple (DS) and multiple (DM) categories exist.

Official Visa (OS/OM)

Single or multiple-entry visa for government officials and service passport holders traveling on official business.

• Issued free of charge.
• OS = Official Simple, OM = Official Multiple.
• For official/service passport holders on government business.
• Diplomatic Note from issuing government required.

Courtesy Visa (CS/CM)

Complimentary visa issued as a courtesy to certain foreign officials, dignitaries, or persons of note not qualifying for full diplomatic status.

• Issued free of charge.
• CS = Courtesy Simple (60 days), CM = Courtesy Multiple (1 year).
• Granted at the discretion of MIREX.

Emergency Entry Facility (7-day)

Exceptional short-term entry authorization for special humanitarian or emergency cases not covered by standard visa categories.

Emergency entry without a standard visa for a maximum of 7 days granted in special humanitarian or exceptional cases. Issued at DGM (Dirección General de Migración) discretion.
