After the completion of online visa application form on the portal and payment of the visa fee it is requested to print out the Cover letter and sign it, the receipt that the visa fee was paid has to be printed as well.

• Documentation of the family relationship (e.g. birth certificates of children, marriage certificates of spouses, documentation of partnership, transcript from population register, joint rent contracts/purchase contracts, joint loans etc. with a cohabitant, documentation of cohabitants expecting or having children together).
• Documentation that the person you are applying for family reunification with has right of residence pursuant to the EU/EEA regulations (registration certificate or other documentation).
• Documentation that you are supported, if you are:
• Child or grandchild over the age of 21.
• Parent or grandparent of the sponsor or the sponsor’s spouse/partner or cohabitant.
• Other family members who have no other family in their home country and who are members of the EU/EEA national’s household and are supported by him/her, or family members with serious health problems who can only be cared for by the sponsor.
• If the person whom you are applying for family immigration with is here as a student or has right of residence on the basis of sufficient funds (own funds or permanent periodical benefits), you must enclose a declaration from the sponsor in your application stating that he/she will finance your stay in Norway. The person who lives in Norway must also have health insurance (e.g. European health insurance card). If you are applying for a residence card as a child, and only one of your parents is to live in Norway, you must enclose the written consent of the other parent. If not, you must submit either a court order or a birth certificate showing that the parent in Norway has sole care and control for you.
• If you are engaged to an EU/EEA citizen and applying for a residence card, you must submit documentation that the person in Norway can support you financially. You also need a medical insurance that covers expenses in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, necessary medical treatment and hospital treatment. The condition of health insurance is satisfied if you have proof of private health insurance.

Proof of financial maintenance (subsistence), for example, documentation of support from the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund, a transcript of your bank balance or a confirmation from an educational institution that the money is deposited in its account

Advance approval from NAV. Norwegian employer has to contact NAV (the Employment Services) in Norway in order to obtain advance approval (forhåndstilsagn). This requirement to not apply to seasonal workers within agricultural and forestry.

If you wish to marry a person living in Norway, you can apply for a residence permit to come here and enter into marriage (fiancé permit). The permit is valid for six months, and you must get married in the course of the period for which the permit is valid. After you have married, you can apply for family immigration with your spouse.

The purpose of this permit is to enable you to get married in Norway. The permit is valid for six months. You must live with your fiancé in Norway during this period. If you do not get married in the course of six months, you must leave Norway.

After you have married, you must apply for family immigration with your spouse to be able to stay in Norway. You must apply for family immigration prior to the expiry of your fiancé permit, and you can stay in Norway while your application is being processed.

You are not entitled to free Norwegian tuition while you are in Norway on a fiancé permit. You can read more about your entitlements and obligations on the Webpages of the Directorate of Integration and Diversity (IMDi) (imdi.no ↗)

You can travel into and out of Norway for as long as the fiancé permit is valid, and you can also work here.

You can apply for a fiancé permit if the person you are going to marry is a Norwegian citizen or lives in Norway and holds a permanent residence permit (udi.no ↗) or a residence permit that forms the basis for a permanent residence permit.

Your children cannot apply for family reunification with you while you are in Norway on a fiancé permit, as this permit does not constitute grounds for family reunification.

If you are going to marry an EEA-citizen with a right of residence in Norway, you can apply for a fiancé permit. The fiancé’s right of residence is only valid for 6 months and it must be likely that marriage will be entered into in this period. However, if you are an EEA national yourself, you can stay in Norway without a permit for up to three months or up to six months if you are seeking employment. You can get married in the course of such a stay in Norway.
