Permit to Enter and Reside – Employment

Allows a foreign national to reside in Tuvalu to undertake paid employment for up to one year.

Issued under Regulations 3 and 5(2) of Immigration Regulations CAP 24.15.1. Fee: AUD $600 for principal applicant + AUD $150 per dependent if applied outside Tuvalu; AUD $1,200 + AUD $300 per dependent if applied inside Tuvalu. Must be accompanied by employer sponsorship form (Form 5). Permit is cancelled if employment ceases or changes. Extendable; maximum 3 extensions in any 5-year period. Medical and radiological examination required if stay exceeds one year.

Permit to Enter and Reside – Study

Allows a foreign national to reside in Tuvalu to pursue study for up to one year.

Issued under Regulation 3(1)(c) of Immigration Regulations CAP 24.15.1. Fee: AUD $300 for principal applicant + AUD $150 per dependent. Study on a standard Visitors Permit is explicitly prohibited; this permit is required for any period of study. Extendable up to 3 times in any 5-year period.

Permit to Enter and Reside – Academic or Scientific Research

Allows a foreign national to reside in Tuvalu for the purpose of academic or scientific research for up to one year.

Issued under Regulation 3(1)(d) of Immigration Regulations CAP 24.15.1. Fee: AUD $600 for principal applicant + AUD $300 per dependent. One of the enumerated purposes for the Permit to Enter and Reside. Same general application process and extensibility rules apply.

Permit to Enter and Reside – Cultural or Religious Purpose

Allows a foreign national to reside in Tuvalu for a cultural or religious purpose for up to one year.

Issued under Regulation 3(1)(e) of Immigration Regulations CAP 24.15.1. Fee: AUD $100 for principal applicant + AUD $50 per dependent. Note: proselytising is explicitly prohibited on a standard Visitors Permit, making this the appropriate permit for religious workers or missionaries requiring a longer stay.

Permit to Enter and Reside – Family Reunion or Family Support

Allows a foreign national to reside in Tuvalu for the purpose of family reunion or to provide family support for up to one year.

Issued under Regulation 3(1)(f) of Immigration Regulations CAP 24.15.1. Fee: AUD $100 for principal applicant + AUD $50 per dependent. Covers both reunion with family members already residing in Tuvalu and providing support to family members. Distinct from the accompanying-person permit under Regulation 3(1)(g) (a separate entry).

Permit to Enter and Reside – Accompanying Person (Dependant)

Allows the spouse, children or other dependants accompanying a principal Permit to Enter and Reside holder to enter and reside in Tuvalu for the duration of the principal permit holder's stay.

Issued under Regulation 3(1)(g) of Immigration Regulations CAP 24.15.1 (2022 Revised Edition) to a person entering Tuvalu 'for the purpose of accompanying a person entering Tuvalu under this subsection' — i.e. the spouse and children of a principal business, employment, study or research permit holder. No standalone fee is prescribed in Regulation 7; accompanying persons are charged as 'dependents' of the principal applicant (AUD $50 to $300 each, depending on the principal's purpose category and whether the application is lodged inside or outside Tuvalu). The permit is tied to, and cancelled with, the principal holder's permit. Any accompanying person aged over 16 who intends to reside for 12 months or more must complete a medical examination (Form 7) and radiological examination (Form 8) per Regulation 4(2).

Permit to Enter and Reside – Minister-Approved Purpose

A discretionary permit issued for any purpose not enumerated in the standard categories, approved at the Minister's discretion.

Issued under Regulation 3(1)(h) of Immigration Regulations CAP 24.15.1. Fee: AUD $200 for principal applicant + AUD $100 per dependent. Requires Ministerial approval. Acts as a catch-all category for purposes not otherwise listed (e.g. medical treatment, diplomatic non-immunity personnel, etc.).
