Residencia por Trabajo (Work Residency)

Granted to foreign nationals employed in Honduras under a valid employment contract or with an employer commitment letter, allowing them to reside and work legally in the country.

Applicants must present an employment contract or employer commitment letter (notarized if not drafted in Honduras). Required documents include passport valid at least 1 year, 2 passport photos, authenticated birth certificate, criminal background check (with fingerprints), and health certificate. Application fee is USD $150. Per the Colombia embassy page, work visa applications must be processed directly in Honduras through the Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM). All documents require Spanish translation with originals plus two copies.

Permiso/Residencia de Estudios (Student Permit)

Issued to foreign nationals intending to pursue formal education at an accredited institution in Honduras.

Issued as an INM 'Permiso Especial de Permanencia' under the category 'Extranjeros Estudiantes' (foreign students). Required for any foreign national studying at an accredited institution in Honduras. Per the Colombia embassy page, student permit (visa de estudios) applications must be processed directly in Honduras through the Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM). Minimum monthly pension income of USD $1,500 (or equivalent in local currency) from abroad, received via a Honduran financial institution. Requires bank reference and pension provider verification (both notarized and authenticated). Application fee is USD $150. After obtaining residency, naturalization may be pursued after continuous qualifying residency. Documents must be submitted with Spanish translations and originals plus two copies.

Residencia de Inversionista (Investor Residency)

Grants long-term residency to foreign nationals who make a qualifying investment of at least USD $50,000 in a lawful economic activity in Honduras.

Minimum investment of USD $50,000 in any lawful economic activity in Honduras (including certificates, securities, or State bonds). Also requires a certificate of deposit of not less than USD $5,000 from the Central Bank of Honduras as guarantee. A technical feasibility study and investment schedule must be submitted. Application processed through a Honduran lawyer registered with the National Bar Association. Covers the principal investor and immediate family. After 3 years of continuous residency, naturalization may be pursued.

Residencia Rentista (Rentier/Passive Income Residency)

Grants long-term residency to foreign nationals who demonstrate stable passive or rental income of at least USD $2,500 per month from domestic or foreign sources.

Minimum passive/rental income of USD $2,500 per month (or equivalent in national currency), received via a Honduran financial institution. Income can originate abroad or within Honduras. Requires notarized income documentation authenticated by a provincial notary chamber. Application fee is USD $150. Documents must be submitted with Spanish translations and originals plus two copies.

Residencia por Matrimonio / Vínculo Familiar (Family Reunification Residency)

Grants residency to foreign nationals who are married to or have close family ties with Honduran citizens or permanent residents.

Category covers spouses and close family relations (matrimonio/vínculo familiar). Per the Colombia embassy page, family relationship visas (vínculo familiar) must be processed directly in Honduras through the INM. Application fee is USD $150. Required documents include authenticated marriage or family relationship certificates, criminal background check, health certificate, and valid passport. All documents require Spanish translation.

Visa Diplomática (Diplomatic Visa)

Issued to diplomatic and consular officials, government representatives, and international organization officials holding valid diplomatic passports, for official missions to Honduras.

Issued free of charge to holders of diplomatic passports on official missions. Covers diplomatic and consular officials and government representatives accredited to Honduras. Members assigned as members of a diplomatic/consular mission must obtain the appropriate diplomatic or consular visa even if their nationality otherwise benefits from a visa exemption.

Visa de Cortesía (Courtesy Visa)

Issued to holders of special or service passports traveling on official missions, including cultural and sports delegations and certain international organization personnel.

Issued free of charge to special/service passport holders on official missions. Also covers official cultural and sports delegations and certain international organization personnel who do not qualify for a full diplomatic visa.

Visa Oficial (Official Visa)

Issued to consular officials, public officials, and international organization representatives holding official passports, UN Laissez-passer, or OAS passports.

Issued free of charge to consular officials and international organization representatives with official documents (official passports, UN Laissez-passer, or OAS passports). Distinct from the diplomatic visa category.

Permiso Especial de Permanencia – Servicios Religiosos (Religious Worker / Missionary Permit)

Special stay permit for foreign clergy, missionaries, and religious workers serving with a church or religious organization in Honduras.
