e-Medical Visa

Medical treatment at recognized Indian hospitals

• Triple-entry visa valid 60 days from date of arrival.
• Requires letter from a recognized Indian hospital confirming treatment.
• Up to 2 attendants may apply for e-Medical Attendant Visa simultaneously.
• Available to nationals of eligible countries.

Student Visa (Type S)

Full-time study at Indian educational institutions

• Duration of course + 1 month typically.
• Issued for the period of the course.
• Requires bonafide admission letter from a recognized Indian institution.
• Applied at Indian embassy/consulate or VFS/BLS center.

Employment Visa (Type E)

Skilled employment in India

• Issued for the term of the employment contract (max 5 years).
• Requires employer invitation/appointment letter.
• Salary must meet minimum threshold (generally USD 25,000/year).
• Applicant must not be taking up a job that can be filled by an Indian national.
• Applied at Indian embassy/consulate.

Research Visa (S-4)

Research scholars, visiting research faculty, and members of scientific, anthropological or botanical expeditions

• Bureau of Immigration Student Visa sub-category S-4, for research scholars, visiting research faculty, research on bilateral exchange programmes, members of scientific/anthropological/botanical expeditions and the G-20 Talent Visa.
• Requires clearance from the concerned Indian ministry/department and institutional affiliation.
• Applied at an Indian mission; fee is nationality-specific and processing can be long due to prior clearance requirements.

Intern Visa (S-5)

Foreign nationals undertaking an internship with an Indian company, firm, educational institution or NGO

Listed by the Bureau of Immigration under the Student Visa main category as sub-category S-5, for interns with companies, firms, educational institutions or NGOs. Granted for the duration of the internship or one year, whichever is earlier, and the internship must commence within a stipulated period after completion of the qualifying course.

e-Medical Attendant Visa (M-2)

Family members or attendants accompanying a patient travelling to India for medical treatment

• Companion visa to the (e-)Medical Visa; a maximum of two attendants per patient may hold it, and it is co-terminus with the same patient's medical visa.
• Triple entry, valid 60 days from arrival on the e-Visa route.
• Also issued as a regular M-2 attendant visa (M-4 for Ayush treatment) at Indian missions.
• Fee is nationality-specific.

Entry Visa (X / X-1)

Persons of Indian origin and foreign spouses/children of Indian citizens, PIO or OCI cardholders

Bureau of Immigration Miscellaneous Visa (X) main category, sub-category X-1: for persons of Indian origin and the foreign spouse and foreign children of an Indian citizen/PIO/OCI cardholder who are not themselves registered as OCI. Commonly granted multiple-entry for up to five years and extendable in India through the FRRO.

Family Visa (F)

Dependents (spouse and children) of foreign nationals holding a long-term Indian visa

Bureau of Immigration Family Visa (F) main category, for dependents of foreign nationals holding a long-term Indian visa (Employment, Business, Student, etc.), other than dependents of Diplomatic/Official visa holders. Co-terminus with the principal visa holder's visa.

Production Investment Business Visa (B-4)

Foreign nationals making production-related investments in India

• Bureau of Immigration business sub-category B-4 (Production Investment Business Visa), granted only on the e-Visa platform.
• Distinct from the Permanent Residency Status (PRS) scheme for large FDI investors, which is tracked separately under the RBI programmes.
• Fee is nationality-specific.
