ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will be required for visa-exempt third-country nationals once operational. The Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational on 10 April 2026 across all Schengen countries, after a progressive rollout beginning 12 October 2025. ETIAS is scheduled to start operations in Q4 2026; no precise date confirmed as of June 2026. Applies to all Annex II nationals entering the Schengen area including Italy. The application fee is EUR 20 (updated from the originally proposed EUR 7, adjusted for inflation and additional operational costs); authorization covers multiple short stays within 3 years.

Freelancer In addition to the requirements of paragraph 1 to paragraph 9: - Certification of the entity granting authorization to practice as a freelancer. - Suitable accommodation provided by Italian law. - Proof of income relative to the last year of work for a minimum of Euro 8.400 INDEPENDENT WORK FOR A COMPANY IN ITALY In addition to the requirements of paragraph 1 to paragraph 9: - Employment contract affording workers compensation above the minimum wage Under Italian law. - Last stock of the Company or last tax return to ensure the remuneration expressed in point 1. - Certificate of registration with the Chamber of Commerce to show that the Company is active for at least three years. - Copy of the statement of responsibility sent to the "Direzione Provinciale del Lavoro, Servizio Ispezione del Lavoro" of the Italian city of residence of the employer stating that will not be implemented to any subordinate work.
