For government officials and employees of international organizations travelling to Gabon on an official mission.

Issued to government officials and international organization staff with official mission orders. Not available via e-visa portal; must apply through diplomatic missions.

Visa Diplomatique (Diplomatic Visa)

For holders of diplomatic passports and their accredited embassy/consulate staff and dependents.

Issued to diplomatic passport holders and their embassy/consulate staff with dependents. Many nationalities with bilateral agreements are visa-free on diplomatic passports. Duration and conditions set by bilateral agreements.

Visa Long-séjour / Permis de Séjour (Long-Stay Visa / Residence Permit)

For foreign nationals intending to reside in Gabon for more than 90 days for work, study, or family reunification.

Long-stay visas are NOT issued by Gabonese diplomatic missions or consular posts abroad. Applicants must enter on a short-stay visa and then apply within one month of arrival to the Direction Générale de la Documentation et de l'Immigration (DGDI) for a residence card (carte de séjour). Governed by Law N°5/86 of 18 June 1986.

Autorisation de Travail / Carte de Séjour (Work Permit / Residence Card for Workers)

For foreign nationals employed or seconded in Gabon requiring legal authorisation to work and reside in the country.

Work authorisation is processed through the DGDI after entry on a short-stay visa. No separate work visa is issued abroad; the long-stay residence card pathway applies. Employer sponsorship typically required.

Visa Études / Carte de Séjour Étudiant (Student Visa / Student Residence Card)

For foreign nationals enrolled in Gabonese educational institutions for studies exceeding 90 days.

Students enter on a short-stay visa with proof of enrolment and must apply to DGDI within one month of arrival for a student residence card. No dedicated student e-visa category exists on the evisa.dgdi.ga portal. The MFA short-stay visa page lists 'études' as a supported purpose under the short-stay visa application.

Visa Court-séjour Visite Familiale (Short-Stay Family/Friendly Visit Visa)

For foreign nationals travelling to Gabon to visit family members or friends resident in the country.

'Family Visit' (Visite familiale) and 'Friendly Visit' are official 'Purpose of visit' options on the DGDI e-visa application form at evisa.dgdi.ga, alongside Tourism and Business (verified against the live portal form, 2026-07). Issued as the standard short-stay e-visa: single-entry 1-3 months for approximately 70 EUR (45,000 XAF) + 15 EUR processing fee, ~72h processing; a 6-month multiple-entry option (185 EUR / 120,000 XAF + 15 EUR) is also available. The application requires a named contact/host in Gabon (name, address, phone). Valid only for air entry via Léon Mba International Airport, Libreville.

Visa Court-séjour Raison Médicale (Short-Stay Medical Visa)

For foreign nationals travelling to Gabon to receive medical treatment.

'Medical reason' (Raison médicale) is an official 'Purpose of visit' option on the DGDI e-visa application form at evisa.dgdi.ga (verified against the live portal form, 2026-07). Issued as the standard short-stay e-visa: single-entry 1-3 months for approximately 70 EUR (45,000 XAF) + 15 EUR processing fee, ~72h processing; a 6-month multiple-entry option (185 EUR / 120,000 XAF + 15 EUR) is available for longer treatment. Treatment exceeding 90 days requires applying to the DGDI in Libreville for a residence card. Valid only for air entry via Léon Mba International Airport, Libreville.
