Iranian passport holders need an approved eTA (electronic travel authorisation) before travelling to Hungary, but not a full visa.

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will be mandatory for all visa-exempt third-country nationals entering Schengen area including Hungary. Confirmed for Q4 2026 launch, with a 6-month transitional period (travellers meeting all other entry conditions will not be refused entry solely for lacking ETIAS during transition, extending into approximately April 2027). ETIAS is valid for 3 years or until passport expires. Fee applies. As of June 2026, ETIAS is not yet operational.

- Duly filled application form - A valid passport, not older than 10 years – Passport should be valid for at least 90 days beyond your return date. At least 2 empty pages should be available in your passport - Both, your passport and your residence permit in Iran must be valid for at least three months beyond the returning date of your trip. - One recent colour passport size photo in white background - Original birth certificate. Full birth certificates issued outside the EU must be duly translated into English and legalised by The Embassy of Hungary / Embassy of the origin country in Iran. - Letter of consent for travel date, date of return, etc from the other parent. if only one parent is present when applying for a visa along with the child at the Hungary visa application centre. Passport copies of both parents must be provided. Or sole custody agreement in case of single parents. - Fully booked and paid return flight tickets; - Fully booked and paid hotel reservation OR a letter of invitation in original by your host in Hungary, signed by him/her and with a photocopy of his/her valid I.D. and his/her residence permit in Hungary if non-EU-citizen;, - An original reference letter only by school or University. The letter should be addressed to ‘ The Embassy of Hungary, Tehran’ - Travel insurance covering the intended period of stay with a minimum coverage of EURO 30,000 for emergency hospital and return expenses.
