Nepal visa types
Tourist Visa
Short-term leisure, recreation, and sightseeing visits to Nepal. Employment is strictly prohibited.
- Available in three durations: 15 days (USD 30), 30 days (USD 50), 90 days (USD 125), all multiple-entry.
- Maximum cumulative stay per calendar year is 150 days.
- Obtainable on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport and 11 border immigration offices, or via online pre-arrival application at nepaliport.immigration.gov.np.
- Gratis (free) for SAARC nationals (first 30 days of first visit annually, excl. Afghanistan), Chinese nationals (any duration), NRN card holders, and children under 10 (except US citizens).
- Nationals of 13 restricted countries must apply at a Nepal embassy/consulate in advance.
- Diplomatic/official passport holders issued a 30-day tourist/diplomatic visa.
Transit Visa
Allows travelers transiting through Nepal to enter and spend a night (up to 24 hours) between connecting international journeys.
- Issued for 24 hours (overnight) to foreign nationals in transit, on production of proof of onward transit (a confirmed air ticket).
- Visa fee is USD 5.
- Cannot be extended.

Business Visa
Long-term business visa for foreign nationals who invest in and operate a business or industry in Nepal (short business meetings/visits use a tourist visa).
- Issued for periods from 1 month up to 1 year, or for 5 years at a time (multiple-entry), by the Department of Immigration.
- Fees are tiered by investment size: investment under NRS 10 million = USD 35/month, USD 400/year, USD 1,000 for 5 years; investment over NRS 10 million = USD 20/month, USD 200/year, USD 500 for 5 years; investment over NRS 100 million = no charge.
- Applicants investing over NRS 10 million must submit share details.
- The fee_usd shown (USD 400) is the standard annual fee for the under-NRS-10-million tier.
- Short business meetings/visits do not require this visa - a tourist visa suffices.

Study Visa
Issued to foreign nationals pursuing academic/non-academic degrees, courses, or research at institutions in Nepal, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Education.

Grants long-term residency in Nepal to foreign nationals who make a minimum qualifying investment in an industrial enterprise registered in Nepal.
- Minimum investment of USD 100,000 (or equivalent in convertible foreign currency) in a registered industrial enterprise in Nepal.
- Requires a recommendation letter from the Department of Industry.
- Annual fee: Nepalese currency equivalent to USD 700.
- Renewal fee: Nepalese currency equivalent to USD 1,200.

- Available to foreign nationals of Nepali origin holding citizenship of a non-SAARC country, provided they hold a valid NRN card issued by Nepal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a Nepali diplomatic mission abroad.
- Issued gratis (free of charge) for 30 days on arrival.
- Extendable up to 1 year at the Department of Immigration at no charge while the NRN card remains valid.
- NRN card holders must maintain an active NRN visa during their stay - the card alone does not substitute for the visa.
Diplomatic / Official Visa
Issued to holders of diplomatic or official passports traveling to Nepal on official government business or diplomatic assignments.
- Issued for 30 days.
- Extendable through Nepal's Department of Consular Services in Kathmandu.
- Requires a diplomatic note (note verbale) from the relevant foreign ministry or diplomatic mission.
- Diplomatic/official/service passport holders from 14 countries (Thailand, Russia, China, Brazil, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, Jordan, Israel, Georgia, Qatar, Oman, Indonesia) are fully visa-exempt under bilateral agreements for 30โ90 days depending on the agreement.
Marriage Visa
For foreign nationals married to a Nepali citizen (spouse of a Nepali passport holder).
- A non-tourist visa for the foreign spouse of a Nepali citizen.
- Issued for a maximum of 6 months on first application, extendable for up to 1 year at a time thereafter.
- Requires a Marriage Registration Certificate from the District Administration Office/District Court (or, if married abroad, the foreign certificate plus an embassy verification letter) and the Nepali spouse's citizenship certificate.
- The Nepali spouse must be physically present at every application and renewal (no proxy).

Relationship (Relation) Visa
For foreign nationals who are blood relatives (within three generations) of a Nepali citizen.
- A non-tourist visa for foreign nationals who can establish a blood relationship (within three generations) with a Nepali citizen, evidenced by a Relationship Certificate issued by the concerned local government body.
- Issued for a minimum of one month and renewable.

Press Visa
