Special Work Visa SW1 / SW2

Entry for equipment technicians, journalists, and charitable/humanitarian workers engaged in specific short-term work activities.

Initial grant up to 60 days, extendable up to 1 year. SW1 and SW2 are sub-categories for different work profiles. Separate from the general work permit system.

Unified Permit for Foreign Workers (Employment Visa, formerly W1/W2)

Single digital document combining an entry visa and work authorization for foreign nationals taking up employment or individual entrepreneurship in Kyrgyzstan.

Since 1 July 2025 (Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 367) the former Employment Visa W1 (issued to work-permit or individual-entrepreneur applicants; initial 60 days without a permit, then multiple-entry for the work-permit validity) and Employment Visa W2 (up to 90 days, renewable annually, for categories exempt from a work permit under the Law on External Labor Migration) were consolidated into a single electronic 'Unified Permit' (Single Permit) covering both entry and legal employment. Employers or workers apply via the e-visa portal; processing about 7 working days; stay/validity is tied to the employment term and renewable. Issuance is administered by the MFA through the end of 2026. Distinct from the Special Work SW1/SW2 visa (short-term technicians, journalists, charity staff). Student Visa (Type S)

Entry for academic study at accredited educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan.

Available via e-visa portal. Longer-duration study typically requires in-country extension or a different permit category.

Digital Nomad Visa (Type DN)

Allows remote workers in ICT, software development, AI, gaming, digital media and related sectors to live and work remotely from Kyrgyzstan without a local work permit.

Established by Presidential amendments (October 9, 2024) and codified by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 241 (April 30, 2025). Renewable annually. DN status holders are exempt from compulsory residence registration for up to 60 days. Applicants must show proof of remote contracts and income. No Kyrgyz work permit required while status is valid.

Investment Visa (Type I)

Issued to foreign investors or heads of foreign investment companies making qualifying capital contributions to the Kyrgyz economy.

Minimum investment 10 million KGS for a visa valid up to 5 years; minimum 20 million KGS for a visa valid up to 10 years. Eligible sectors include manufacturing, agriculture, banking, energy, education, medicine, engineering, and ICT. Family members (spouse, minor children, dependent parents) may receive an accompanying FF-type family visa. Does not directly confer permanent residency or citizenship.

Relatives / Family Visit Visa (Type RL)

Entry to visit relatives or for family reunification with a Kyrgyz citizen or legal resident.

Available via e-visa portal. Separate Family Member (FF) category exists for accompanying dependants of other visa holders.

Family Member Visa (Type FF)

Issued to spouses, minor children, and dependent parents accompanying or joining the primary visa holder in Kyrgyzstan.

Tied to the primary visa holder's status (e.g., Investment Visa, DN Visa). Validity mirrors the primary holder's visa.

Guest Visa (Type G)

Entry for private-nature visits - to visit friends and acquaintances or to receive medical treatment/services in Kyrgyzstan.

Official MFA category 'G' (guest). Covers short private visits and is the visa foreigners use when travelling to Kyrgyzstan specifically for medical treatment. Issued for up to 60 days. Consular fee approximately USD 60-90 depending on duration and single/multiple entry. Obtained through Kyrgyz embassies/consulates; the current e-visa portal instead offers Relatives (RL) and Family Member (FF) categories, so a Guest visa is typically issued consularly rather than online.

Diplomatic Visa (Type D)

Entry for heads of foreign states and governments, members of their official delegations, and accredited diplomatic staff.

Issued through diplomatic channels, not the public e-visa portal. Holders of diplomatic passports from 30+ countries may also enter visa-free under bilateral agreements.

Official / Service Visa (Type O)

Entry for foreign state officials and their family members travelling on official government business.

Validity ranges from up to 90 days to 1 year depending on assignment. Issued through official channels.

Driver Visa (Type T)

Entry for drivers engaged in international freight and passenger transport operations.

Visa validity up to 6 months; maximum 30 days per individual entry. For international freight/transport drivers.

Ethnic Kyrgyz Visa / Meken Visa (Type M)

Issued to ethnic Kyrgyz persons residing abroad who wish to visit or return to Kyrgyzstan.

'Meken' (meaning 'homeland') visa category. Applicants must demonstrate ethnic Kyrgyz heritage.

Religious Visa (Type R)

Entry for missionaries, clergy, and individuals engaged in religious cooperation and charitable religious work.

Requires documentation of religious organization affiliation and purpose of visit.

Sapar Visa (Type J)

Entry for participants in state-endorsed business, sports, and major public events, issued on the basis of a government or institutional petition.

Requires a state petition or institutional sponsor. Can be extended ('Sapar' translates roughly to 'journey/trip'). Not available via the standard public e-visa portal.

Leave Visa (Type L)

Issued to foreign nationals to facilitate legal departure from Kyrgyzstan following a visa violation or overstay.

Administrative visa to allow departure. Not for general immigration use.

Emergency Leave Visa (Type E)

Issued free of charge to foreign nationals requiring emergency departure due to a medical emergency.

Issued at no cost for medical emergencies. Administrative/humanitarian category.
