Signed confirmation of employment/study letter from an employer/Institution, with contact details, (full names of the employers, approved signatories, physical address and phone numbers)

Non-refundable fee of Kshs. 4,800.00(to Countries that are not fee exempt). This excludes VFS Service Fee.

For foreign nationals, you are required to have a work, study of residence permit valid for one year and above Endorsed on your passport.

A statement /letter by applicant confirming the purpose and duration of the visit. If Self-employed, submit a signed letter and attach documents of ownership. If retired, please submit a written statement. If a student, attach a document from their learning institution.

Sufficient funds in form of ORIGINAL recent bank statement for the last three(3) months signed and stamped by the bank.

Sponsor’s Business/Tax Registration Documents.

For self-employed applicants, letter from their Business, Certificates of Registration documents/Ownership with current contact address. If retired, please submit a written statement. Proof of occupation is mandatory

Marriage Certificate/Affidavit accompanied by a letter if one spouse is taking care of expenses.

In addition to the requirements for the specific purpose of travel, Accompanying Children under 18 years will be required to provide:

Parental Consent Affidavit (PDF checklist ↗) - Consent for persons under the age of 18 to travel to or from the Republic of South Africa. Please print Parental Consent Affidavit and have it signed by a Commissioner of Oaths. Please read General Notes (PDF checklist ↗) for further guidelines. A copy of the certified Consent will be presented alongside all other supporting documents at the Visa Application Centre on application date.

Sufficient funds in form of a recent bank statement for the last three(3) months signed and stamped by the bank.

Birth Certificate for Minors/Children travelling with parents. Where applicable, Consent letter/s with copy/s of parent/s identification card/passport data page hold be attached to the application.

Where applicable, a copy of a court order granting the applicant parental responsibilities and rights in respect of the child

A letter from the person who is to receive the child in the Republic, containing his or her residential address in the Republic where the child will be residing.

Where the application is for the attendance of an activity or event, include a letter from the Organization under whose control the activity or event will take place, confirming such attendance and whether or not the foreigner will be remunerated, and if remunerated, the amount of the remuneration.

If the child is a student, attach a document from their learning institution.

• Consent from the guardian in the case of an unaccompanied minor
• Sufficient funds in form of either a recent bank statement, for the last three months signed and stamped by the bank
• Verifiable return flight booking
• Undertakings by the host(s) in South Africa
• Applicant must have VISA of the neighboring country where they will be transiting to.

Documents required to apply for a South African Transit visa

1 recent passport photograph taken against a white background. If you wear glasses, the photograph must show clearly with no flash reflection of the glasses(35mm * 45mm) (not more than 12 months old).

A passport or travel document valid for no less than 90 days after the expiry of your intended visit.

Your passport must have at least two unused pages for entry / departure endorsements

Copy of bio data page and original passport valid for 60 days and at least 2 free pages on passport

There is No Visa application fee for Kenyan passport holders staying in South Africa for less than 30 days. Although a service charge of KES 5840 is applicable to be paid in M-Pesa at the Bank located inside the Visa Application Centre located at West One building 2nd floor Parklands.

A copy of valid Yellow Fever Card with signature and cover page which shows validity dates. (Mandatory) (make sure yellow fever vaccination card is valid for 10 years)

If you have children (minors) travelling with you or joining in South Africa, you will need to provide the following additional documents:-

MINOR APPLICANTS: Responsibility term/letter from the parents authorizing the minor of travels to South Africa and copy of the parents ID’s and copy of the Birth Certificate of the child (Required even if the parent is traveling with minor)

In case of minors or dependents the person covering the expenses should include and attach in the documents of the minor or dependents a financial or responsibility term and the copy of the identification - ID.

The signature of the form on the minor should be done by any one of the parents.

Proof of financial means to pay for your living expenses while in South Africa in the form of:

Third country destination visa is a must.

If the country is not represented in Kenya, then a document is required from that country which will substantiate his/her visit in the third country destination.

All above mentioned relevant documents need to be brought in originals for verification at the Centre with subsequent photocopies. Only Photocopies will be taken along with the application, giving originals back to the applicant excluding the bank statements.

An applicant for a relative's visa shall submit-

The financial assurance contemplated in section 18(1) of the Act shall be an amount, per person and per month, as determined from time to time by the Minister by notice in the Gazette, to be proven by means of a current salary advice or a certified bank statement not older than three months at the time of application:

Provided that the financial assurance shall not be required where the South African citizen or permanent resident is a dependent child.

A relative's visa may be issued for a maximum period of two years at a time.

Processing of relatives visa takes a maximum of 8 weeks

• An applicant for an exchange visa in terms of section 22(a) OF THE Act shall- In the case of a learning institution in the Republic, in conjunction with a foreign education and training institution or a foreign state institution organising or administering the programme, submit a letter from-
• The Department of Basic Education or Higher Education and Training or a learning institution in the Republic confirming that it is responsible for organising or administering the existence of the programme, outlining the activities, terms and condition and duration thereof and accepting full responsibility for the student while he or she is in the Republic; and
• The foreign state institution or education and training institution confirming the particulars of the applicant, the applicant’s enrolment with the foreign education and training institution, and the date on which the programme shall commence.
• In the case of a programme of cultural, economic or social exchange in the republic
• In case of a programme of cultural, economic or social exchange, organised or administered by an organ or state or a learning institution, in conjunction with a foreign education and training institution or a foreign state institution , submit a letter from-
• The Organ of state or foreign education and training institution confirming the existence of the exchange programme or
• The foreign education and training institution confirming the enrolment of the applicant or the foreign state institution conducting the programme, as the case may be:
• An applicant for an exchange visa in terms of section 22(a) or (b) of the Act, shall submit-
• Proof of valid return air flight ticket or written undertaking by the organ of state, learning institution or employer accepting responsibility for the return or deportation costs of the applicant , as the case may be;
• Proof of medical cover for the duration of the exchange period with a medical scheme registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act.
• Police clearance from Country of ordinary residence

Exchange visa may be issued by the department by the department to a foreigner in a programme of cultural, economic or social exchange organised or administered by an organ of state, or a public higher education institution, in conjunction with an organ of a foreign state.

• A duly completed application form signed by the applicant (

• An official letter confirming provisional acceptance or acceptance at that learning institution and the duration of the course;
• An undertaking by the Registrar or Principal of the learning institution to:
• Within 30 days of de-registration, notify the Director-General that the applicant is no longer registered with such institution; and
• Within 30 days of completion of studies, notify the Director-General when the applicant has completed his or her studies or requires to extend such period of study;
• In the case of a learner under the age of 18 years-
• An unabridged birth certificate;
• A copy of his or her identity document, if applicable;
• Proof of physical address and contact number of the adult person residing in the Republic, who is acting or has accepted to act as such
• Proof of consent for the intended stay from both parents or, where applicable,
• A police clearance certificate in respect of applicants 18 years and older, in respect of all countries where the applicant resided one year or longer. (must not be older than 6 months at the time of its submission)

• Proof of sufficient financial means available to the learner whilst resident in the Republic in terms of; an Original Bank Statement, or Certified Bank Statement by the Bank as true copy with an original Bank Stamp (

• An application for a critical skills work visa shall be accompanied by proof that the applicant falls within the critical skills category in the form of -
• A confirmation, in writing, from the professional body, council or board recognised by SAQA in terms of section 13(1)(0 of the National Qualifications Framework Act, or any relevant government Department confirming the skills or qualifications of the applicant and appropriate post qualification experience;
• Proof of evaluation of the foreign qualification by SAQA and translated by a sworn translator into one of the official languages of the Republic.
• Duly completed application form signed by applicant
• Police clearance in respect of each Country in which the applicant resided since the age of 18 years (Must not be older than 6 months at the time of its submission)
• Medical and radiological report

( N.B If required by law, proof of registration with a council or board recognised by SAQA in terms of section 13(1)(i) of the National Qualifications Framework Act Certificate issued by regulatory body); and

A spouse and dependent children of a holder of a critical skills work visa shall be issued with an appropriate visa valid for a period not exceeding the period of validity of the applicant's critical skills work visa.

• Despite a diligent search, the prospective employer has been unable to find a suitable citizen or permanent resident with qualifications or skills and experience equivalent to those of the applicant;
• The applicant has qualifications or proven skills and experience in line with the job offer;
• The salary and benefits of the applicant are not inferior to the average salary and benefits of citizens or permanent residents occupying similar positions in the Republic; and
• The contract of employment stipulating the conditions of employment and signed by both the employer and the applicant is in line with the labour standards in the Republic and is made conditional upon the general work visa being approved;(original copy )

An application for a general work visa shall be accompanied by-

Proof of acknowledgment (MANDATORY) from the Department of Labour confirming that-

Proof of qualifications evaluated by SAQA and translated by a sworn translator into one of the official languages of the Republic;

Full particulars of the employer, including, where applicable, proof of registration of the business with the Commission on Intellectual Property and Companies (CIPC);

An undertaking by the employer to inform the Director-General should the applicant not comply with the provisions of the Act or conditions of the visa;

An undertaking by the employer to inform the Director-General upon the employee no longer being in the employ of such employer or when he or she is employed in a different capacity or role.

An application for an Intra-Company Transfer Work Visa shall be accompanied by-
