Employment Visa

Issued for the purpose of taking up employment in Brunei Darussalam.

Typically requires a sponsor/employer in Brunei. Separate from the work permit (Pas Kerja) which is processed by the Department of Immigration and National Registration after entry.

Professional Visit Visa

Issued for the purpose of professional work or expertise required for a particular project in Brunei Darussalam.

• Processing: 3 working days at HQ/Kuala Belait, 5 working days at Temburong.
• Must be sponsored by a government agency or registered company in Brunei.
• Even nationals qualifying for visa-free/VoA general entry must apply separately for Professional Visit status.

Work Pass (Pas Kerja)

Mandatory work authorization issued by the Department of Immigration and National Registration to foreign nationals taking up employment in Brunei. Must be held in addition to a valid Employment Visa.

• Official requirement per the Work Pass Division: foreign nationals working in Brunei must hold BOTH a valid visa AND a valid work pass.
• The employer's representative first obtains a work visa approval letter; the employee then attends a Brunei mission abroad for the work visa endorsement (with medical check and travel document) before the work pass is issued.
• Companion document to the Employment Visa, not a substitute for it.

Student Visa

Issued for the purpose of studying in Brunei Darussalam at a recognized institution.

Requires enrollment confirmation from an institution in Brunei.

Dependent Visa

Issued to spouses and children (under 18 years old) of foreign nationals residing in Brunei Darussalam.

Dependent visas cover spouses and children under 18.

Diplomatic Visa

Visa issued to foreign nationals holding a diplomatic passport travelling on official business.

• Many countries with diplomatic passport holders are granted visa-free access (Category D2/D3) under bilateral agreements.
• The Diplomatic Visa applies to those not covered by waiver arrangements.

Long-term multiple-entry pass for company owners and foreign investors who meet Brunei's economic contribution criteria, including local job creation and tax compliance.

• Valid up to 5 years with multiple-entry.
• Excludes convenience stores, restaurants, laundries, salons, and non-registered companies.
• No minimum investment amount stated officially.
• Pass may be revoked for law violations or failure to provide economic benefits.
• Does not explicitly lead to permanent residence.

Long-Term Professional Visit Pass

Long-term multiple-entry pass for foreign experts and professionals whose expertise is determined to be beneficial and needed for Brunei's national development.

• Valid up to 5 years.
• Granted based on national needs as determined by relevant government bodies.
• No minimum salary or investment amount stated officially.

Long-Term Social Visit Pass

Long-term pass for foreign nationals with family ties to Brunei citizens or permanent residents who do not yet meet criteria for permanent residency.
