Employment Visa

For foreign nationals who have secured employment in Guyana and wish to reside and work in the country.

Requires a signed contract or letter of employment, police clearance, and medical report. Applications accepted online via eservices.iss.gov.gy. Extensions also available through the same portal. Work permit (landing permit for employment) valid up to 3 years, renewable. Specific fee not published on official government pages.

Student Visa

For foreign nationals admitted to an accredited school or educational institution in Guyana.

Multiple-entry, valid 3 years (EUR 130 at Belgian embassy). Requires Student Acceptance Letter from an accredited institution. Online applications also accepted via eservices.iss.gov.gy. Extensions available through the ISS eServices portal.

Visa on Arrival (Pre-Approval Letter)

For nationals of countries that require a visa but have no access to a Guyana embassy or consulate - allows obtaining a pre-approval letter online, which is converted to a visa upon arrival at the airport.

Applicants must obtain a pre-approval letter through the online portal before travel - travelers cannot board without this letter. Upon arrival at the airport, the visa is affixed to the passport. Processing time is 10-14 working days. Applicants should confirm receipt with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship at (592) 223-5210. Fee not specified on official sources.

Landing Permit for Employment (Work Permit)

The work authorization a foreign national needs, in addition to an Employment Visa, to take up employment and reside in Guyana.

Guyana's employment pathway requires both an Employment Visa and this Landing Permit for Employment (the work permit). Applied for online via the ISS eServices portal (Ministry of Home Affairs) - page verified live 2026-07. The vacancy must be advertised in the newspapers for three consecutive months. Required documents: letter requesting landing permission for employment, employment contract, sponsor/employer business registration, GRA compliance and NIS receipts, police clearance, and a medical report. Work permit reported valid up to 3 years, renewable; specific fee not published on the official portal.

Landing Permit for Student

In-country permit allowing a foreign national admitted to an accredited Guyanese institution to reside in Guyana for the duration of study.

Applied for online via the ISS eServices portal (Ministry of Home Affairs) - page verified live 2026-07. Complements the Student Visa. Required documents: letter requesting landing permit for student status, passport bio-data page, birth certificate, evidence of financial support for studies, certificate of character, police clearance, and medical report. Fee and validity not published on the official portal.

CARICOM Free Movement Certificate

Allows qualified skilled nationals of CARICOM member states to live and work in Guyana without a work permit under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) framework.

Available to CARICOM nationals who qualify as skilled workers: university graduates (bachelor's or equivalent including ACCA), musicians and artistes, sports persons, media workers, registered nurses, trained teachers, artisans with Caribbean Vocational Qualifications, associate degree holders, self-employed and service providers. Fee in Guyana: G$1,500. Processing 3-6 weeks. Participating states: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago. Bahamas, Montserrat, and Haiti are excluded.
