Work Permit
Authorizes foreign nationals to engage in paid employment in Jamaica for a designated employer and period.
Administered by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. Application fee JMD 2,000 (non-refundable). Processing approximately 10 business days with complete documentation. Permit is non-transferable; new application required when changing employers. CARICOM-skilled nationals may use a CARICOM Certificate of Recognition instead (fee JMD 8,000 for certificate + JMD 2,000 application).

Allows foreign students enrolled at Jamaican educational institutions to extend their authorized stay beyond the initial visitor admission period.
Extension of stay fee is JMD 10,000. Processing takes 3 working days in Kingston (25 Constant Spring Road) or 7 working days in Montego Bay. Students may also qualify for Unconditional Landing if they have Jamaican descent or CARICOM CSME status.

Exempts holders of diplomatic and official passports from visa requirements for Jamaica under bilateral agreements with specific countries.
Diplomatic and official passport holders from Cuba, Haiti, and UAE (among others) are exempt from Jamaica's visa requirements. UAE agreement announced September 23, 2019. Ordinary passport holders from these countries may still require visas.

Applied for at a Jamaican embassy/consulate using Visa Application Form J before travel; not available online or on arrival. Students with a confirmed acceptance letter are landed for one (1) year on each entry; those whose enrolment is still being processed initially receive a two-month landing, extendable to 12 months once the acceptance letter is provided. Requires a return ticket valid for one year and proof of adequate funds. Consular/administrative fee US$20 plus the nationality-based visa fee at the NY consulate. Students over 16 staying 6+ months must register with PICA.
