Hajj Visa

Special religious visa issued to Muslim pilgrims traveling through or to Jordan for the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Pilgrimage-specific visa for Muslim travelers. Holders of Hajj visas are exempt from residency registration requirements. Must be arranged through official Hajj channels.

Medical Visa

Visa for foreign nationals traveling to Jordan for medical treatment or healthcare procedures.

Required for those traveling specifically for medical procedures. Must be applied for through the Embassy of Jordan or Jordanian consulate in advance. Jordan is a regional hub for medical tourism. Specific fee and duration determined by the embassy handling the application.

Work Visa

Visa permitting foreign nationals to enter Jordan for the purpose of employment.

Must be applied for in advance through the Jordan Ministry of Interior online system or a Jordanian embassy. No on-arrival option available for work visa. Requires a job offer from a Jordanian employer and approval from the Ministry of Labour. Different extension procedures apply compared to tourist visas.

Student Visa

Visa for foreign nationals admitted to accredited educational institutions in Jordan.

Must be applied for in advance through the Jordan Ministry of Interior online system or a Jordanian embassy. No on-arrival option available. Requires acceptance letter from a recognized Jordanian university or educational institution. Different extension procedures apply. Students typically must register with local police if staying longer than 14 days.

5-Year Renewable Residency Through Property Ownership

Residency permit for foreign nationals who purchase qualifying real estate in Jordan from a developer.

Requires purchase of one property exclusively from a real estate developer valued at minimum 200,000 JOD per Department of Lands and Survey appraisal. Property must be retained for 5 years without sale or mortgage. Residency valid for 5 years, renewable. Covers investor and family members. Does NOT lead to citizenship under the July 2025 CBI reforms. Applications via Ministry of Investment e-Services Portal at portal.moin.gov.jo.

Annual Residency for Investors (Investment-Based)

Annual renewable residency for foreign nationals conducting qualifying economic activity in Jordan.

Annual residency granted within 14 working days for investors in sectors covered by the Investment Environment Regulation Law, or holding senior management positions (chairman, board member, general manager, director general, or CEO) in a Jordan-based investment. Covers investor and family (spouse, male children under 30, unmarried daughters, parents). Not available for commercial sector - apply via Ministry of Interior instead. No minimum investment amount stated. Applications via Ministry of Investment e-Services portal.

Diplomatic Visa Exemption

Visa-free entry for holders of diplomatic passports of countries with applicable bilateral agreements with Jordan.

Holders of diplomatic passports of most countries may enter Jordan without a visa for up to 90 days within any 6-month period. Excluded diplomatic passports: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Mexico, Nigeria, Republic of Congo, Serbia, Syria, Yemen. Additionally, holders of diplomatic, official, or service passports of GCC countries, ASEAN countries, and many others including Brazil, Russia, Turkey, UK, and EU member states have specific bilateral visa-free agreements for 30–90 days. Based on multilateral diplomatic convention and bilateral waiver agreements.

Family/Follower Residency Permit

Residence permit (Iqama) for spouses, children, and other dependents ('followers') of a Jordanian sponsor or of a foreign national legally resident in Jordan.

Official Ministry of Interior 'Family/Follower Residency' e-service. Annual renewable residency. Spouses of Jordanian citizens follow a streamlined route and are exempt from the bank-deposit requirement imposed on other applicants; a certified recent marriage certificate is required. Reported renewal fee for a spouse of a Jordanian is about 30 JOD (~42 USD) plus 1 JOD postal fee. Applied online via eservices.moi.gov.jo.

Workless (Self-Funded) Residency with Bank Deposit

Residence permit for foreign nationals who wish to live in Jordan without working, demonstrating self-sufficiency through a required bank deposit - the route used by retirees and other financially independent residents.

Official Ministry of Interior 'Workless Residency with Bank Deposit' e-service. For self-supporting foreigners not engaged in employment; requires a deposit held in a Jordanian bank. Jordan has no dedicated retiree/retirement visa - this self-funded residency is the mechanism retirees and financially independent applicants use. Annual and renewable; a 5-year version is available (see Five-Year Residence Permit). Applied online via eservices.moi.gov.jo.

Work Permit for Non-Jordanian Workers with Specialized Skills

Work permit for highly skilled foreign professionals with rare or in-demand expertise, issued to employers where no qualified Jordanian job seeker is available.

Ministry of Labour category distinct from the general work visa/permit. Per the 2024 Principles, issued for 1 year (fee 2,150 JOD, ~3,032 USD), 6 months (1,250 JOD), or 3 months (645 JOD), plus a 50 JOD TVSDC levy and stamp duty. Employer applies (paper or electronic); worker must pass a medical exam. Holder may not transfer to professions outside the specialized-skills list. Sector percentage quotas do not apply to this category.

Five-Year Residence Permit

Long-term (5-year) renewable residence permit issued by the Ministry of Interior as an alternative to the annual Iqama for qualifying long-term or self-funded foreign residents.

General long-term residence route, separate from the property-investment 5-year residency: available to property owners or, for non-property owners, against a bank deposit that was reduced from 20,000 JOD to 10,000 JOD (~14,100 USD) under 2024 reforms.
