Work Visa - Work Permit Required (symbol LĐ2)
Foreign nationals employed in Vietnam who must hold a work permit
Symbol LĐ2 (Article 8, Law 47/2014/QH13). Requires BOTH a work permit (Giấy phép lao động) issued by the competent provincial labour authority (DOLISA, formerly under MOLISA) - employer-sponsored, needing a criminal-record check, health certificate and qualification documents - AND the LĐ2 entry visa issued by the Immigration Department. Valid up to 2 years, renewable (Article 9). Visa fee USD 145 for a 1-2 year multiple-entry visa (Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC). Holders may then obtain a temporary residence card.

Foreign workers who hold a work-permit-exemption confirmation
Symbol LĐ1 (Article 8, Law 47/2014/QH13). For foreigners certified as exempt from a work permit - e.g. capital-contributing owners/members of an LLC, chairpersons/board members of a joint-stock company, intra-corporate transferees in the WTO service sectors, or others confirmed exempt by the labour authority. Valid up to 2 years (Article 9). A work-permit-exemption confirmation must be obtained before the LĐ1 visa is issued.

Foreigners coming to Vietnam to study or undertake an internship
Symbol DH under Article 8, Law 47/2014/QH13. For students and interns at Vietnamese schools, universities, or organizations. Valid up to 12 months (Article 9). Requires an admission/invitation letter from the sponsoring educational institution. Fee per Circular 25/2021/TT-BTC (single-entry USD 25; longer multiple-entry visas cost more).

Spouse, parents, and children under 18 of certain visa holders or of Vietnamese citizens
Symbol TT under Article 8, Law 47/2014/QH13. Issued to the spouse, children under 18, and parents of foreigners holding an LV1, LV2, ĐT, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1 or LĐ visa, and to the spouse, children, or parents of Vietnamese citizens. Valid up to 12 months (Article 9). Requires proof of the family relationship and the sponsor's status.
