Foreign nationals admitted to an Iraqi university or higher-education institution for undergraduate or postgraduate study under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's official 'Study in Iraq' program.
Official 'Study in Iraq' program run by Iraq's Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (launched 2024; 2025-2026 intake is the third round), announced via mofa.gov.iq embassy pages (e.g. mofa.gov.iq/kualalumpur/2025/06/11/study-in-iraq-program/). Offers fully-funded, partially-funded and self-funded places at Iraqi universities, including accommodation and health insurance for accepted international students. Applicants apply online at the official portal, receive admission, then obtain the student entry visa from an Iraqi embassy before travel and complete residency (student residence permit) at the General Directorate of Residency within 30 days of arrival. Apply here ↗Work Permit & Work Residence Permit (Foreign Worker)
Employer-sponsored foreign nationals taking up employment in Iraq. Requires a work permit from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs before an entry visa and residence permit are issued.
Iraq does not issue a standalone MFA 'work visa'. Per the official Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa page, foreigners are not granted an entry visa or residency permit for work unless they first obtain a work permit from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (Labor Law No. 37 of 2015). The Iraqi employer/sponsor files the work-permit request; after approval the worker is issued an entry visa at an Iraqi embassy and, on arrival, a work residence permit (commonly one year, renewable - duration not stated on the official mofa.gov.iq page). Exemptions apply to staff of international organizations and diplomatic missions, treaty-covered workers, Iraqi government employees, and workers on holy-shrine reconstruction. Work permits are issued by the Ministry of Labor (molsa.gov.iq).
