Entry Permit β Class G (Employment / Work Permit)
For foreign nationals employed by a Ugandan company or organization. Required for any form of paid employment, including missionary and volunteer work.
Class G is the standard employment entry permit. Subclass G3 covers rare-skilled expatriates in agro-processing, manufacturing, and mining. EAC nationals (Kenya, Rwanda) are exempt from work permit fees; Tanzanian nationals pay reduced fee of USD 1,550/year. Applied online via visas.immigration.go.ug. US State Dept advisory warns that missionary and volunteer work frequently require a work visa; operating without valid permit may result in fines or imprisonment.

For foreign nationals who are shareholders or investors in Ugandan companies across sectors including agriculture, agro-processing, mining, manufacturing, general trade, and specific professions.
Class B1: Agriculture shareholders. Class B2: Agro-processing (fees: 6 months USD 400; 12 months USD 400; 24 months available). Class C1/C2: Prospecting/mining of minerals. Class D: General trade. Class E: Manufacturing. Class F: Specific professions. No minimum investment threshold stated on official pages. Linked to active investment in Uganda companies.

For foreign nationals who have assured income derived from sources outside Uganda and commit not to accept any employment in Uganda.
Closest equivalent to a retirement/passive income residence permit. No minimum income threshold stated on official pages. Holder must not engage in any form of employment within Uganda.

For foreign nationals above the age of 4 years enrolled in a recognized learning institution in Uganda.
Granted for 3, 6, or 12 months (validity varies by tier selected). Flat fee of USD 100 payable at the point of application regardless of the period granted; East African Community nationals are exempted from this fee. Holders of a valid Student Pass do not require a visa to re-enter Uganda while the pass is valid.

For children (under 18 years), the spouse, and other relatives of a foreign resident who holds proof of legal stay in Uganda (Student Pass, Work Permit/Entry Permit, or Certificate of Residence).
Granted to dependants of a foreign national who has a valid Uganda residence document. Holders do not require a visa to re-enter Uganda while their pass is valid. Specific fee not published on the official page.

A short-term pass for foreign nationals coming for short contract/temporary work assignments, medical treatment, tourism, or business opportunities, or awaiting processing of an Entry Permit.
Issued for short-term work assignments and other temporary activities, typically for up to 90 days with the possibility of a limited extension. Also commonly used as a bridge document while an Entry Permit application is being processed. Holders do not require a visa to re-enter Uganda while the pass is valid.

Visa-free entry to Uganda for holders of diplomatic or official passports of certain countries under bilateral agreements.
Countries whose diplomatic and official passport holders are exempt: Algeria, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Venezuela, Vietnam. Turkey: diplomatic passport only (not official). These exemptions are based on bilateral visa abolition agreements. Ordinary passport holders from these countries still require an e-visa.

For holders of diplomatic, official, and service passports entering Uganda on official business or duties, and for ordinary passport holders who are exempted from immigration fees.
Gratis visa: fee is Nil and there is no processing fee. Requires a copy of the diplomatic/official/service passport (bio-data and cover page, valid at least 6 months), a recent passport photo, and a Diplomatic Note (Note Verbale) or supporting document for the official visit. Applied online at visas.immigration.go.ug, with biometric capture at an immigration office after approval. Distinct from the nationality-based diplomatic/official passport visa EXEMPTION granted to citizens of specific treaty countries.

Long-term / permanent residence document for foreign nationals qualifying by marriage to a Ugandan (married at least 3 years), by continuous long stay (10 years contributing to Uganda's socio-economic development), or as a former Ugandan who acquired another citizenship.
Issued in durations of 5 years, 10 years, or Life. For the 'due to long stay' category the fees are USD 4,000 (5 years), USD 3,500 (10 years), and USD 3,000 (Life), each including a USD 200 processing fee. Other categories: 'due to marriage' (legally married to a Ugandan for at least 3 years) and former Ugandans. This is Uganda's closest equivalent to permanent-residence status. Regional free-movement travel document allowing nationals (and lawful residents) of Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda to travel between the three countries using only a National Identity Card instead of a passport.
Issued FREE at the border at the point of exit; no visa required and no charge. Citizens of Kenya and Rwanda may enter Uganda using a valid National ID card or e-Passport. Foreign nationals holding valid resident permits issued by Kenya, Rwanda, or Uganda may also use the Inter-State Pass to move within the region without a visa.
