Thai passport holders need an approved eTA (electronic travel authorisation) before travelling to Hungary, but not a full visa.

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will be mandatory for all visa-exempt third-country nationals entering Schengen area including Hungary. Confirmed for Q4 2026 launch, with a 6-month transitional period (travellers meeting all other entry conditions will not be refused entry solely for lacking ETIAS during transition, extending into approximately April 2027). ETIAS is valid for 3 years or until passport expires. Fee applies. As of June 2026, ETIAS is not yet operational.

- Application form duly filled and signed in English or Hungarian (oif.gov.hu โ†— (oif.gov.hu โ†—)) Special rules apply for minors; - Passport with at least 18 months validity. Please note that the validity of the residency permit cannot be longer than 3 months before the expiry of your passport. It should be machine-readable, contain at least two blank pages and should not be older than 10 years; - One recent passport-size photo . Please note that the photos have to be color and all facial details are clearly visible, including ears. Glasses, masks, hats are not allowed. - Residence permit handling fee to be paid at the VFS; - Please note if your application requires the authentication of Power of Attorney or translation you have to make a separate appointment with the Consulate by email (Email) and pay a separate fee BEFORE you go to VFS. You will have to submit the original Power of Attorney and one copy to the VFS. You will get the original back once the VFS officer checks it against the copy; - Specific supporting documents according to the purpose of travel (see the following link: oif.gov.hu โ†— (oif.gov.hu โ†—)) - Duly signed authorization if you would like to allow us to communicate with your Hungarian and/or local company/lawyer or family member.
