Work Permit

Authorises foreign nationals to undertake paid employment in Barbados for a specified employer and occupation. This is the umbrella work-permit framework; it is issued as either a short-term or long-term permit.

~$150online

Issued under Section 17 of the Immigration Act CAP 190. Work permits are employer-sponsored and occupation-specific - the employer or 'sponsor' makes the application on behalf of the employee. Application fee is BDS $300 (~USD 150); the final fee for long-term permits varies with the category of work and length of time requested per the International Standard Code Fee Regulations. Permits are issued in two forms: short-term (up to 11 months) and long-term (up to 3 years). SERP Category 1 holders (investors of at least USD $2 million) are also entitled to a work permit. Foreign nationals wishing to work in Barbados typically need both an entry visa (if their nationality requires one) and a work permit issued by the Chief Immigration Officer.
