Requires proof of financial capacity (USD 50 per day), confirmed letter from Mauritian fiancΓ©/fiancΓ©e, character/criminal record certificate, full birth certificate, and return ticket. Permits non-citizens to pursue full-time or part-time education at recognized tertiary institutions or TVET centers in Mauritius.
Eligible for certificate/diploma (minimum 1 academic year), undergraduate, postgraduate, postdoctoral, and exchange program students (up to 1 year). Application must be submitted by the educational institution, not the student directly. Requires letter of admission, proof of financial capacity, accommodation proof, and medical certificate (including HIV/Hepatitis B tests and chest X-ray). Valid for up to 5 years (effective August 2025; previously 10 years). Requires transfer of at least USD 2,000 per month (USD 24,000 per year) to a Mauritian bank account and minimum 180 days per year residency. Non-refundable application fee of USD 50. Eligible for 20-year Permanent Residence Permit after 5 years with total transfers of at least USD 200,000 over the 5-year period. Minimum salary MUR 30,000/month. Valid for up to 3 years or duration of employment contract. Allows foreign investors who invest in a business in Mauritius to reside and manage that investment.
Two investment options: Option 1 requires minimum USD 50,000 with cumulative turnover target of MUR 20 million over 5 years; Option 2 requires USD 100,000 with MUR 15 million cumulative over 5 years. Occupation Permit valid for 10 years, renewable. Eligible for 20-year Permanent Residence Permit after 5 years. Application fee USD 1,000 upon approval; USD 50 non-refundable application fee. Allows self-employed foreign entrepreneurs in the services sector to reside and operate their business in Mauritius.
Restricted to the services sector (effective August 2025). Minimum investment of USD 50,000. Must provide letters of intent from at least 3 clients (2 local). Annual income target: MUR 750,000 in year 1, scaling to MUR 6 million cumulative over 5 years. Valid for up to 10 years. Allows foreign graduates of recognized Mauritius tertiary institutions to work in designated high-tech sectors after completing their studies.
Available to foreign students who completed at least an undergraduate degree at a TEC-recognized Mauritius institution. Must apply within 6 months of publication of results. Valid for maximum 2 years (reduced from 3 years effective August 2025). Minimum salary MUR 25,000/month. Permitted sectors: Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Fintech, Robotics, Financial Services, Information Technology. Must transition to a standard Occupation Permit after 2 years. Established under Section 13 of the Economic Development Board Act 2017 and Section 9A of the Immigration Act 1970.

Allows a dependent family member or person employed exclusively for the family unit of an Occupation Permit holder to reside in Mauritius.
Established under section 14 of the Immigration Act 2022 and section 13(1)(b) of the Economic Development Board Act 2017. Covers spouse, dependent children, parent, other dependents, or a person working exclusively for the family unit. Valid for 10 years.

For non-citizens employed by a Mauritian employer, typically below the Occupation Permit salary threshold; held together with a Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labour.
This is the standard employment route (distinct from the EDB-administered Occupation Permit). A foreign worker requires BOTH a Residence Permit from the Passport and Immigration Office AND a Work Permit from the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training. Applications are made simultaneously by the employer through the e-Work Permit portal (workpermit.mu) using the Common Application Form for Work Permit / Certificate of Exemption. Residence Permit fee is RS 500 (approx. USD 11) per year per non-citizen worker, payable before issuance. Persons on tourist or business visas cannot switch to employment status. Applied for at the Residence Permit Counter, Sterling House, Port Louis. Validity is tied to the Work Permit / employment contract period.

For non-citizens civilly married to a citizen of Mauritius who wish to reside in the country with their spouse.
Granted under Section 5(1)(c) of the Immigration Act to non-citizens civilly married to a Mauritius citizen (who must not have lost or renounced citizenship). Distinct from the Wedding Visa, which is for entering Mauritius in order to marry; this permit is for those already married. Both spouses must call personally at the Passport and Immigration Office to submit the application and collect the permit. Requires marriage certificate, police clearance under 6 months old, supporting letter from the citizen spouse, and financial evidence. Residence Permit is free of cost.

For non-citizens undertaking a full-time practical training, industrial placement, or internship with a local firm or company in Mauritius.
Maximum duration of six (6) months, extendable once for an additional three (3) months. The placement/training must be full-time and confirmed by the accepting local firm or company.
