Allows nationals of certain third countries to pass through the international transit zone of a Romanian (Schengen) airport during a stopover or connection between two international flights, without entering Romanian/Schengen territory.

Required only for nationals of a specific list of third countries when transiting airside; it does NOT authorise entry into Romania or the Schengen area. Issued for a single or two transits; multiple-entry airport transit visas may be granted for a maximum validity of six months. Holders of valid Schengen/EU visas or residence permits are generally exempt. Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025 and issues the uniform (Type A) airport transit visa. Romania no longer issues the former Type B transit visa (discontinued on full Schengen implementation). Visa granted for 90 days; a digital-nomad residence permit is then issued for up to 12 months, renewable for a further 12 months (up to 24 months total). Foreign-sourced income may be exempt from Romanian income tax if the holder stays under 183 days in a 12-month period.
