Transit

Romania Transit Visa

Romania publishes a transit visa product for travellers passing through to another destination. Whether you need one depends on your nationality and whether you stay airside - see how transit visas work.

Airport Transit Visa (Type A)

Allows nationals of certain third countries to pass through the international transit zone of a Romanian (Schengen) airport during a stopover or connection between two international flights, without entering Romanian/Schengen territory.

apply online

Required only for nationals of a specific list of third countries when transiting airside; it does NOT authorise entry into Romania or the Schengen area. Issued for a single or two transits; multiple-entry airport transit visas may be granted for a maximum validity of six months. Holders of valid Schengen/EU visas or residence permits are generally exempt. Romania became a full Schengen member on 1 January 2025 and issues the uniform (Type A) airport transit visa. Romania no longer issues the former Type B transit visa (discontinued on full Schengen implementation). Applications via the eVisa portal (eviza.mae.ro) with in-person finalisation at a Romanian diplomatic mission.
