Employment Visa

Entry for foreign nationals taking up employment in Myanmar.

Initial single-entry Employment Visa (USD 50, 70 days) is obtained from Myanmar embassy abroad. After arrival, a Stay Permit must be obtained from the Ministry of Immigration. Multiple-entry versions available for extended validity. Work permit from Ministry of Labour is required separately.

Education Visa

Entry for foreign nationals enrolled in educational or training programs in Myanmar.

Single-entry Education Visa (USD 50, 90 days). Multiple-entry: 1 year for USD 160 (per official Myanmar Consulate General Los Angeles and Embassy of Myanmar Riyadh fee schedules). Requires acceptance letter from an accredited Myanmar educational institution. Extensions possible with appropriate documentation.

Social Visa

Entry for foreign nationals visiting family members or for social/humanitarian purposes in Myanmar.

Single-entry Social Visa (USD 50, 70 days). Multiple-entry options: 3 months USD 150, 6 months USD 300, 1 year USD 450 (per official Myanmar Consulate General Los Angeles fee schedule). Covers family visits and social activities.

Religious Visa

Entry for foreign nationals engaging in religious activities, missionary work, or pilgrimages in Myanmar.

Single-entry Religious Visa (USD 50, 70 days). Multiple-entry options: 3 months USD 150, 6 months USD 300, 1 year USD 450. Requires documentation from a recognized religious organization (missionary/clergy work).

Meditation Visa

Entry for foreign nationals attending meditation retreats or undertaking monastic/religious training at a Myanmar meditation centre, monastery, or under a Sayadaw.

Myanmar is the only country that issues a dedicated Meditation Visa. Single-entry USD 50, 70 days stay, valid 3 months from issue; multiple-entry options USD 150 (3 months), USD 300 (6 months), USD 450 (1 year). Requires a sponsorship/invitation letter from a recognized Myanmar meditation centre, monastery, or Sayadaw plus approval from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (approval can take 2-4 months); embassy processing thereafter is roughly 5-7 business days. Extendable in-country at the Immigration Department (up to 1 year per extension). Distinct from the Religious Visa, which covers missionary/clergy work. Confirmed as a separate category by Myanmar Consulate Hong Kong and the Embassy of Myanmar, Ottawa.

Journalist Visa

Entry for foreign journalists and media personnel covering events in Myanmar.

Single-entry Journalist Visa (USD 40, 28 days). Requires press credentials and assignment documentation. Must apply at Myanmar embassy abroad. Note: Myanmar has heavily restricted press access since the February 2021 coup; approvals are rare in practice.

Workshop / Seminar / Meeting / Research Visa

Entry for foreign nationals attending or presenting at official workshops, seminars, conferences, or conducting research in Myanmar.

Single-entry, 28 days, USD 40. Available via embassy and also as Visa on Arrival at Yangon, Mandalay, Naypyidaw International Airports for eligible nationalities. Research visa holders may apply for extensions. Invitation/approval letter from Myanmar institution or government agency required.

Crew Visa

Entry for air crew and maritime crew members transiting or working in Myanmar.

Visa on Arrival Crew Visa: USD 40, 28 days (Yangon, Mandalay, Naypyidaw International Airports for eligible nationalities). Embassy/consulate Crew Visa: single-entry USD 50 (90 days), multiple-entry USD 160 valid 2 years (per official Myanmar Consulate General Los Angeles and Embassy of Myanmar Riyadh fee schedules). Requires crew member documentation.

Official / Diplomatic Visa

Entry for holders of diplomatic, official, or service passports traveling on government business.

Diplomatic/Courtesy Visa is issued free of charge. Official Visa for non-diplomatic government travelers: single-entry USD 50, multiple-entry options USD 200-600. Separate from bilateral diplomatic visa exemption agreements. Duration determined case-by-case.
