Short-term business activities in Lithuania or the Schengen Area including meetings, negotiations, conferences, and training, but not paid employment; uses the same Type C visa as tourist visits.

• For paid employment or long-term business activity a national D visa is required.

Transit through the international transit areas of Lithuanian airports (primarily Vilnius) without entering Schengen territory; required only for nationals of countries listed on the Airport Transit Visa list.

• Type A visa covers airside transit only; holder does not enter Schengen territory.
• Multiple airport transit visas may be issued with a maximum validity of 6 months.
• Fee EUR 90.
• Required only for nationals of countries on the EU airport transit visa list (e.g. Afghanistan, Ghana, India, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, and others).
• Processing 15-45 calendar days.

Issued to foreign nationals who have been granted a work permit or temporary residence permit for employment purposes in Lithuania, allowing them to enter and reside while working.

• Lithuania's national D visa is issued for stays exceeding 90 days.
• A work D visa is linked to a work permit or a temporary residence permit for employment.
• Valid for up to 1 year.
• Applications submitted via MIGRIS portal (www.migracija.lt) or Lithuanian consulate.
• Holders must obtain a temporary residence permit if staying beyond the D visa period.
• National visa (D) state fee is EUR 140 (approx USD 153) per the Migration Department state-fee schedule (migracija.lrv.lt) and the EU Immigration Portal.
• EU Blue Card holders also receive a D visa if entering from outside Lithuania.

Issued to foreign nationals accepted for full-time studies at a Lithuanian higher education institution, language school, or other accredited educational establishment.

• Requires acceptance letter from a Lithuanian educational institution and proof of sufficient funds.
• Valid up to 1 year; students in programmes longer than 1 year must obtain a temporary residence permit.
• Students may work part-time (up to 20 hours/week during term time) under Lithuanian labour law.
• National visa (D) state fee EUR 140 (approx USD 153).

Residence and work permit for highly qualified non-EU nationals employed in Lithuania under a contract for at least 6 months, meeting minimum salary thresholds.

• Fee EUR 160 (approx USD 175); expedited EUR 320 (approx USD 350).
• Minimum salary: EUR 3,165/month for standard occupations (1.5x average wage); EUR 2,532/month for shortage/high-value-added occupations (1.2x average wage).
• Based on 2023 average monthly gross wage of EUR 2,110.
• Duration: 3 years or employment contract duration + 3 months (whichever shorter).
• Eligible for EU mobility after 18 months.
• Applied for via MIGRIS portal.
• Standard processing: 1 month; expedited: 15 days.

Issued to non-EU founders or key personnel of innovative startups confirmed by the Lithuanian Innovation Agency, or to qualified self-employed persons establishing a business in Lithuania.

• Startup applicants must first obtain confirmation from the Lithuanian Innovation Agency (Inovacijų agentūra) that the planned activity is innovative.
• Temporary residence permit issued for 2 years, renewable for up to 3 additional years upon Innovation Agency confirmation.
• Enterprise must be established and operations commenced within 120 days of permit issuance.
• National visa (D) state fee EUR 140 (approx USD 153); the linked temporary residence permit fee is EUR 160.
• Applications via MIGRIS.

Issued to family members (spouse, minor children, dependent relatives) of Lithuanian citizens, EU/EEA nationals residing in Lithuania, or third-country nationals holding a valid temporary or permanent residence permit.

• Requires proof of family relationship with the sponsor, sponsor's valid residence status, proof of adequate accommodation and financial means.
• Sponsor must have held a temporary residence permit for at least 1 year and have the right to reside for at least another year before applying.
• National visa (D) state fee EUR 140 (approx USD 153).
• Applications via MIGRIS portal or Lithuanian consulate.

Issued to researchers and scientists from non-EU countries who have signed a hosting agreement with a Lithuanian research institution accredited by the relevant ministry.

• Requires a signed hosting agreement with an accredited Lithuanian research or higher education institution.
• Holders may apply for a temporary residence permit if staying longer than the D visa period.
• National visa (D) state fee EUR 140 (approx USD 153).
• Implementing EU Directive 2016/801 on students and researchers.
• Applications via MIGRIS.

Issued to non-EU nationals participating in voluntary service programmes (e.g. European Solidarity Corps) or unpaid traineeships at Lithuanian organisations.

• Requires hosting agreement with a Lithuanian organisation.
• National visa (D) state fee EUR 140 (approx USD 153).
• Implementing EU Directive 2016/801.
• Applications via MIGRIS portal or Lithuanian consulate.

Issued to foreign nationals holding diplomatic, official, or service passports traveling to Lithuania on official government business, including accredited diplomats and their dependents.

• Diplomatic passport holders from many countries are exempt from Schengen visa requirements under bilateral agreements (see conditional_access entries).
• Where a visa is required, diplomatic visas are issued free of charge.
• Procedures coordinated via Lithuanian embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (urm.lt).

Short-stay Schengen C visa issued for the purpose of receiving medical treatment in Lithuania; uses the same instrument as tourist/business visits.

• Same legal instrument as Schengen C visa.
• Requires documentation from a Lithuanian medical institution confirming appointment/treatment.
• Fee EUR 90.
• For treatments exceeding 90 days a national D visa and temporary residence permit based on medical grounds may be required.

Non-EU nationals coming to Lithuania for temporary seasonal employment (e.g. agriculture, food processing, hospitality) tied to a seasonal work permit issued by the Employment Service.

• Seasonal work permits are granted for a maximum of 6 months in any 12-month period.
• A Schengen C visa is used for seasonal stays up to 90 days; a national long-stay D visa for longer seasonal stays.
• The prospective employer notifies the local Employment Service (uzt.lt) of the vacancy and applies for the permit, which is issued within 7 working days; the corresponding national long-stay visa is issued within about 15 days.
• Implements EU Directive 2014/36/EU on seasonal workers.

Managers, specialists, or trainee employees of a company established outside the EU who are transferred to a group branch, subsidiary, or parent company in Lithuania.

• Requires prior employment with the sending company of at least 6 months (managers/specialists) or 3 months (trainees).
• Permit valid for the duration of the transfer up to a maximum of 3 years for managers and specialists and 1 year for trainees.
• Standard processing up to 2 months (managers/specialists) or 3 months (trainees); expedited decision in 1 month / 45 days for an additional fee.
• Allows intra-EU mobility within the same corporate group.
• Implements EU Directive 2014/66/EU.
• Applied for via MIGRIS or a Lithuanian consulate.

Young citizens (typically aged 18-30, up to 35 for Canada) of countries holding a bilateral youth-mobility agreement with Lithuania, to travel and take up temporary employment for up to 12 months.

• Issued under bilateral youth-exchange / work-holiday agreements as a national (D) visa valid for up to 12 months with the right to work.
• National visa (D) state fee EUR 140 (approx USD 153).
• Confirmed partner countries: Canada (agreement signed 19 Nov 2009, in force 1 Oct 2010, ages 18-35), New Zealand (signed 1 Oct 2015, in force 1 Jan 2017, ages 18-30), Japan, and South Korea.
• Applicants must show sufficient funds, a return ticket or means to buy one, and health insurance.
• Issued by the Migration Department / Lithuanian consulates.
• Bilateral agreements confirmed via EACEA National Policies (European Commission youth wiki) and Government of Canada International Experience Canada.

Non-EU nationals posted to Lithuania to temporarily provide services under a contract, including contractual service suppliers (CSSs), business visitors for establishment purposes (BVEPs), and short-term business visitors (STBVs) sent by a foreign service-providing company.

• Officially recognised EU immigration category (EU Immigration Portal) covering Contractual Service Suppliers (CSSs), Business Visitors for Establishment Purposes (BVEPs) and Short-Term Business Visitors (STBVs).
• Stays up to 90 days may use a Schengen C visa; stays over 90 days require a national long-stay D visa (EUR 140, approx USD 153) or a temporary residence permit (EUR 160 standard / EUR 320 expedited).
• Standard processing about 3 months; expedited 45 days.
• Requires health insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage.
• Applications via MIGRIS or a Lithuanian consulate / external service provider.
